
WAKEFIELD — Mansfield High’s 152-pound wrestler, C.J. Glaropoulos, and North Attleboro High heavyweight Mattuez Kudra both captured individual titles respectively at the MIAA Division 1 and 2 Championship Meets.
Coach Mark DiSanto’s Division 1 South champion Hornets had six wrestlers place and finished second overall among the 42 teams with 113 points behind Springfield Catholic, which had eight wrestlers finish among the top three.
In Division 2, coach Geoff Burgess’ Rocketeers of North Attleboro had seven grapplers earn medals and the Big Red captured second place among the 48 teams in the field with 104 team points behind only Central Catholic (167).
Meanwhile, coach Bill Ivatts’ Foxboro High Warriors claimed two Division 3 champions, junior Shayne Kerrigan (132) and senior Tommy Gallagher (138), and the team captured third place in the 52-team field with 113 points, just ahead of sixth-place Norton High.
For the Hornets of Mansfield, Glaropoulos won all four of his matches, two on pins over the two days of competition. He scored a 2-0 victory in the title match over Achilles Gikas of Saint John’s Prep.
Mansfield’s Antonios Sevastos (120), Will Stratton (145), George Glaropoulos (160) and Jayden Curley (170) each finished third for the Division 1 South sectional champion Hornets.
North Attleboro’s Kudra also went 4-0 in the Division 2 heavyweight field, taking three pins, two of them in the first round. In his title match, the University of Virginia-bound Kudra took a 5-0 decision over Dylan Chandler of Tewksbury.
North’s Michael Burns (138) went 3-1 for the Rocketeers, taking second place in Division 2, falling in the title match to Tyler Glynn of Central Catholic. Michael Edmonds (152) took fourth while Ethan Smith (120) and Matt Warsofsky (170) took sixth.
Foxboro’s Kerrigan completely dominated his Division 3 bracket with one win by pin, one by technical fall and two by major decision. Kerrigan claimed his title with a 15-2 major decision over Tri-County High’s Patrick Griffin. Gallagher also won all four of his matches, two with pins, taking a 2-0 victory in overtime with a takedown against Josh Ducharme of Tyngsborough.
Foxboro senior William Ogbebor finished as a runner-up for the Warriors at 220 pounds, as his only loss came to the No. 1-seeded DJ Pekacar (Dedham). Foxboro senior teammate Adam Lanctot took third at 120 pounds while William McNeil (285) was sixth.
Norton’s Arthur O’Neill finished as the runner-up at 285 pounds for the Lancers, who placed sixth in Division 3. O’Neill earned a pair of wins by first-period pin before being defeated by major decision to Brooks Jones (Wayland) in the title match. Lancer teammates Dean Santangelo (113) and Alex Turcotte (120) took fourth in their weight classes, while Tyler Elliot (132) and Daniel Clapp (138) finished fifth.
For the Warriors of King Philip, who took eighth in Division 2 with 68 points, Mohammad Lotfi (145) and Shawn Conniff (195) each finished in second place. Lotfi advanced to the title match after a third-period pin in the semifinals before being defeated by Lucien Perla (Nashoba) by a 10-4 decision. Conniff advanced after a 10-3 win by decision in the semis, but was handed a 9-7 loss by decision against Mando Bine (Central Catholic). Luke Fitch finished fourth at 182.
Patrick Griffin came away with the best placement for the Central Sectional champion Tri-County Cougars as the 132-pound runner-up. Also for the Cougars, Kevin Carlucci took fourth at 152 pounds for the Cougars.
