If you've ever considered running for town council or other elected offices, here are the steps you must take to get on the ballot. Michael W. Curley, Jr./NorthJersey.com
With no national offices in play, a quiet turnout is expected in Morris County for Tuesday's primary election.
Many of the primary's municipal, county and state office seekers face no opposition at the polls, but voters will have some important choices to make, especially for Morris County surrogate.
Primary winners in each party will face challengers, including independent candidates, in the general election on Nov. 5. Independents who do not take part in the primary must file for the general election by Tuesday.
Polls will be open from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m. The following are the contested primary elections.*(Incumbents)
General Assembly
21st DISTRICT
Republican incumbents Jon Bramnick and Nancy Munoz are unopposed in the primary. Three Democrats are vying for two seats: Lisa Mandelblatt, Stacey Gunderman and Jill LaZare.
25th DISTRICT
Incumbent Assemblyman Anthony M. Bucco is expected to dominate the GOP primary. But with Carroll's exit, three Republicans have entered the field: John M. Barbarula, Brian Bergen and Aura Kenny Dunn.
Surrogate (5 years)
Incumbent John Pecoraro will retire after 25 years in office. Republican candidates to replace him are District 25 Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll, Freeholder Heather Darling and newcomer Parsippany resident Isabella Alfano.
Carroll, who has served in the Assembly since 1995, announced last year he would not seek a 13th term in favor of running for surrogate.
Darling is in her first year as a Morris County freeholder. Her term does not expire until 2020.
Alfano is a conservative candidate, according to her Facebook campaign page.

A slate of GOP candidates is opposing them: Donald S. Dinsmore, William J. Felegi and former Pequannock Mayor Catherine Winterfield.
